Bardstown Bourbon Company is no stranger to finishing whiskies in wine barrels even though wine-finished bourbons are always tricky to create. Imparting the flavours of even the boldest red wines can be difficult with a strong spirit like bourbon. 

For this release, Bardstown sourced whiskies from several different regions. The whiskies were married together and re-casked into wine barrels from the famed Napa Valley winery, Silver Oaks. Here are the contributing whiskies:

25% – 14yr Kentucky Bourbon sourced from Wild Turkey

23% – 12yr Tennessee Bourbon sourced from Cascade Hollow (Dickel)

5% – 12yr Georgia Bourbon sourced from Ivy Mountain Distillery 

22% – 10yr Kentucky Bourbon sourced from Jim Beam 

10% – 10yr Kentucky Bourbon sourced from Heaven Hill

15% – 9yr Indiana Bourbon sourced from MGP

Nose: The wine influence offers plenty of stone fruit and grape jelly.

Palate: Soft and flavourful with typical wine fruits (plums and raisins) along with mild spices such as white pepper and nutmeg. 

Finish: Medium length finish with the raisins and tannin tug carrying through. Spices tickle the tongue at the very end.
