2023. Cellar Aged. Maker's Mark — the annual Cellar Aged release from Maker's Mark, presenting the distillery's signature wheated bourbon after extended maturation in the natural limestone cellar environment beneath Star Hill Farm in Loretto, Kentucky — the most complex standard Maker's Mark expression available each year.

The Cellar Aged program takes the same wheated bourbon that defines Maker's Mark and extends its maturation in the below-ground cellar environment, where the more stable temperatures and higher humidity of the natural limestone caves produce slower, more gradual spirit-wood interaction than the standard above-ground rick houses. This distinct maturation environment imparts additional complexity, texture, and depth to the bourbon that the standard above-ground aging program cannot replicate.

The Cellar Aged is released annually in limited quantities, with each vintage reflecting the specific character developed during that year's cellar maturation period.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What makes cellar aging different from standard rick house maturation? Standard Maker's Mark rick houses experience wide seasonal temperature swings — hot summers and cold winters that drive bourbon in and out of the wood. The cellar's stable, cooler temperatures produce slower, more gradual wood extraction, developing more subtle complexity over a longer period without the dramatic seasonal cycling.
  • How does Cellar Aged 2023 compare to Cellar Aged 2025 also in the collection? Both are annual Cellar Aged releases from the same below-ground maturation program. The 2023 is two years older, reflecting an earlier maturation period; the 2025 is the most current vintage. Both represent the same production philosophy applied to different years of the cellar program.
