This comes from a village in the Macon that sits above the Macon-Villages classification. This cuvee comes from the 30+ year old Franclieu vineyard that sits atop clay-limestone soils. 2023 was a warm year in the Macon so this resulting wine shows a sense of texture even though it saw no time in oak. The nose opens with a bit of citrus and apricot and a sense of presence that at first made us think a portion was raised in oak barrels. The palate is moderate in weight with a bit of stone fruits and citrus all nicely balanced by some textural characteristics. This will work wonderfully with a wide variety of dishes that call for a Chardonnay pairing. Great Tuesday White Burgundy. - D&M STAFF TASTING NOTES (02/2026)

CRITICAL ACCLAIM:

"The single vineyard bottling of Franclieu from Jean Manciat is his finest terroir, with these thirty to thirty-five year-old vines planted on argilo-calcaire soils. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and raised in stainless steel tanks until bottling. The 2023 Franclieu is a touch lower in octane than the regular Mâcon-Charnay bottling in this vintage, coming in at 13.5 percent alcohol. It delivers a beautifully precise and more soil-defined bouquet of apple, pear, almond, chalky soil tones and a lovely floral topnote redolent of both white lilies and apple blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, zesty and complex, with a beautiful core of pure fruit, excellent mineral drive and grip, a lovely spine of acidity and a long, pure and impeccably balanced finish. This is outstanding Mâcon and more refined and soil-driven in personality than the regular bottling! 2025-2040." - 92+ PTS, JOHN GILMAN, VIEW FROM THE CELLAR #116
